You’ll love this boozy Gluten-Free Banana Bread with homemade Irish Cream. This better for you banana bread is almost too good be true because it tastes like dessert and is made with simple ingredients. Dairy-free and refined-sugar-free.
Boozy Gluten-Free Banana Bread
This is an oldie but goodie at Cotter Crunch and one of my favorite grain-free and gluten-free banana bread recipes!
Let’s be real—I don’t need an excuse to add a little boozy twist to banana bread, but when it’s cold outside, baking feels like the perfect way to stay warm and cozy. Plus, making homemade Irish cream is always a win in my book. It’s a family favorite and reminds me so much of my dad and his love for Irish cream and coffee creamer.
You don’t need Bailey’s Irish Cream to make this banana bread. You can easily swap it out for a homemade, dairy-free version of Irish cream that’s just as delicious!
Ingredients for the Banana Bread
- Coconut milk or almond milk
- Coconut sugar or raw sugar
- Coconut flour
- Almond flour
- Eggs
- Ripe Bananas
Ingredients for Dairy-Free Irish Cream
- Coconut Milk or Coconut Cream
- Vanilla extract
- Maple syrup
- Instant coffee or strong brewed coffee (condensed)
- Whiskey (For non-alcoholic option use a combo of almond extract and rum extract).
Is Whiskey Gluten-Free?
According to the National Institutes of Health’s Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign, gluten-free whiskey is real! Well, for the most part. Even though most whiskey is made from glutinous grains, the distillation process removes gluten proteins. If you’re a celiac, I would check the brand first! Here’s a great list of gluten free alcohol brands.
That being said, if you haven’t tried my chocolate whiskey cakes bites yet, I suggest you start there.
Note – If you’re not into liquor, don’t worry, baking can help cook off “most” of the alcohol.
How to Make Irish Cream Banana Bread
Enjoy this unique twist on banana bread that’s rich, flavorful, and perfect for a special treat!
- Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 350°F and prepare a loaf pan by lining it with parchment paper. This will make removing the bread much easier!
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together almond flour, coconut flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set this aside for later.
- Prepare the Irish Cream: In another bowl, whisk together coffee, cream, whiskey, vanilla, and sweetener until well combined.
- Blend the Wet Ingredients: Beat the bananas and eggs until smooth. Gradually add the homemade Irish cream mixture and blend until fully incorporated.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gently fold the banana mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir just until the batter is smooth—be careful not to overmix.
- Bake the Bread: Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. For an indulgent touch, drizzle melted dark chocolate on top!

- Total Time: 55 minutes
- Yield: 9–10 1x
Description
You’ll love this Homemade Gluten Free Banana Bread with dairy free Irish Cream baked right in. This better for you banana bread is almost too good be true because it tastes like dessert and made with simple ingredients. Plus, it’s refined sugar free!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups fine blanched almond flour
- ¼ cup (40 grams) coconut flour
- ½ cup coconut sugar or raw sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ⅓ cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
- 3 Tablespoons non-dairy cream, coconut milk or almond milk
- 1 to 1.5 ounces Irish whiskey (see notes for non alcoholic version)
- 2 to 4 Tablespoons maple syrup or honey, to taste
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 eggs
- 3 ripe bananas
- Optional Topping: melted dark chocolate or Dark Chocolate Whiskey Sauce (see notes for recipe)
For Non-Alcoholic Version
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- ½ teaspoon rum extract
- ¼ cup non-dairy cream or milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. Line an 8×4 or 9×5 bread pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together almond flour, coconut flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- To make the Irish cream, whisk together the coffee, cream, whiskey (see notes), optional maple syrup, and vanilla in a large bowl.
- In a stand mixer or blender, beat the bananas and eggs together. Add in the homemade Irish cream until smooth.
- Gently fold the banana mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms. Do not over mix. (It might be a little grainy due to the brand of flours.)
- Pour the batter into the prepared bread pan and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Check at 45 minutes, if the outside is browning and the middle is still soft, cover with aluminum foil and place back in the oven on the middle rack for another 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Serve with optional dark chocolate melted on top or dark chocolate whiskey sauce.
- To store, wrap in aluminum foil or place in an airtight container in fridge for up to 1 week.
Notes
Substitute – To make this non-alcoholic, substitute the whiskey with an additional ¼ cup non-dairy cream plus ½ teaspoon almond extract and ½ teaspoon rum extract.
Dark Chocolate Whiskey Sauce – Use our homemade magic shell recipe and whisk in 2 Tablespoons or more of whiskey before letting it cool.
Storage Tips – Freeze up to 4 months. Do not add the chocolate sauce until serving.

Can the coconut flour be substituted with anything?
Hi Paulette! You could try using the same amount of grams of oat flour or gluten free flour. Do you have either of those?

Yes! Let me know if you make it jill
Ok, I don’t even know what to say. Whiskey in a cake? Together with bananas? I whole new paradise just opened up its doors to me. Please send me some of this. MOIST. Seriously, I LOVE this combo! I rarely try recipes (just too lazy, honestly), but I simply HAVE to make this one.
I also eat the chocolate in the picture next to the cake. mmh.
I’d share with you any day! Wish we were neighbors
Can I get in on this neighbour action too!?! I’ve definitely never had boozy banana bread (never even thought of it, tbh), but now I’ve got serious FOMO. This looks perfect.
Yes please!!! Booze bread and neighbors all around
Booze-y banana bread!! Two of my favorite things! I love Irish Cream, especially in coffee. Come to think of it, coffee with Irish Cream would be really good with this. Pinned!
you know it! coffee date!
I don’t have most of the ingredients – another reason we need to live near each other! 🙂 Looks & sounds amazing!!!
On another sadder note – I miss my parents… xoxo
I bet your parents were wonderful! Like you! Hugs
Love this! I used to bake with leftover Bailey’s after each St. Patty’s Day in college. It’s so good in desserts!
You killed it with this recipe, Lindsay! I just wanna reach in and grab me a slice – so moist – guess that Irish cream is to blame! 🙂
You are so darn smart. I LOVE adding booze to desserts, but I’d never thought about adding it to banana bread! This is DEFINITELY a nice way to start the day. 🙂 LOL
Seriously, though — your bread looks so tender and moist. Delicious!
Are you kidding me?! Seriously speechless… and bummed that I fly home getting in just before midnight on the 16th and flying back out the 18th. Means the 17th is getting a little sleep, unpack, wash, and repack, oh and a dinner reservation before heading out. Hoping I can sneak this in this coming weekend and get some to my grandmother… since it’s more of an acceptable way to sneak her in some of her fav Irish cream. 😉
Fly here! You can sleep
I can’t believe that bread is GF. It looks so moist and dense and fabulous!
Yum! Today I’m wishing for the comfort from a hearty slice of banana bread…might need to find time to make this today!
Sending you comfort and hugs
I love anything and everything Irish Cream. I even married a creamy Irish man! LOL I love and miss you. I ws thrilled to get your comment on my blog the other day. I’ve taken a step back from the blog world to be with my family and work on some health issues, but you’ll see me around here and there. Hope you are doing well. Love you!
I just can’t. I used to erm….down Irish Cream whisky under 18 (then refilled the bottle with water so mum wouldn’t know lol).
THIS IS HAPPENING.

Booze in bread sounds DELISH! I have never actually had it, but I would definitely try it…Looks amazing as always! XOXO
That bread looks amazing! So thick! It reminds me of the bread I used to get at Bob Evans growing up!
Oh which one? You should recreate!
Just pinned this one to try when we get home! It looks awesome. You know I’m on board with anything with booze. 😉
I made rum banana bread. With rum-soaked raisins. Normally I don’t like dried fruit, but I made and exception. LOL!
Oh my gosh this sounds so good!! I have “irish cream something” (<–that's literally what it says) written in my brainstorming journal HA! Perhaps I should just make this bread and call it a day.
Lindsay. Seriously? I can’t…. OH YES I CAN.
I love the irish cream coffee creamer so much so I can only imagine the deliciousness of this banana bread, That combo sounds incredible, especially if I have this bread with coffee and irish cream creamer too 🙂
